I gotta new SATA Hdd
Plugged it in ..... Well there was slots & slots .... So I just plugged it in any old where
Got powa to it (Bit poop I thought Havin a sep cable fer powa) Anyways
Do I have to do the master slave thing ?
Bios sees it ........ screeny @ start up sees it ........ Freakin Winders don't tho :(

Start->Run and type diskmgmt.msc
If the drive show up there, right click and select create partition.

No, there is no primary or secondary etc for Serial ATA as there is for Parallel ATA HDDs.
The way is goes is based on the SATA controller on the mobo, e.g., SATA1, SATA2 etc.
So SATA1 would be the bootable one typically.
You still need to partition and format for Windows to assign a persistent drive letter, stored as a mount point or reparse point in the Mount Manager database.
Then you will be able to use the free allocated space.

How comes a guy (or gal) has to use the disk managment thingi me bobs ?
Is it cos the Hdd is quite large ?

You can use any of the disk management type of utilities such as FDISK, the MMC snapin, Partition Magic, or BartPE. If the new drive does not have a partition and it is not formatted, then how do you expect Windows to use it?

I just imagined that it would see a Slave Hdd just outta the wrapper & do it ............ It does it wiv floppies when ya forgets to format them ....... It sez...... This ain't formatted would you like to do it now ...... Still there yas are :t

No, Windows will not see the new hard drive and ask if you want it formatted.
Never has, and probably never will.
However, if the drive has been partitioned and formatted but never used, then Windows will see the drive, assign a drive letter, and let you use it without any work on your part.
