It was faulty memory. bmckay55 12-23-1999, 12:42 AM I recently built a pc. SOYO SY6vba board, celeron 433, maxtor 20g udma66, apache agp, inwin a500 case, etc. I have been having crazy errors. It will usually boot into win98se, & sometimes crashes: usually fatal exceptions but sometimes corrupted registry. Latest was "Fatal exception OE at 0028:FF0377EO in VXD USBhub(01)+0000022D" However, it is never the same one; as mentioned, I have had registry corruption errors also. Have tried just about everything from resinstalling windows (after a format) to switching memory, power supplies, etc. I have finally figured outthe sequence, and this is what is strange. If I boot up, shut down through windows, and remove all power to the system(by shutting off the switch on the power outlet), let it sit for 10 minutes, then restart (switch on power outlet, start using case switch), then I will get errors & crashes. If however, I shut down through windows and leave the power switch on (I have a little led on the board which stays lit in this sitiuation), then reboot, I have no problems. This is driving me absolutely crazy. Any ideas. Bill McKay bmckay55 12-23-1999, 04:06 AM Thanks. I will swap memory and see if that solves the problem. If I remember correctly, it was some brand x memory that I bought cheep. awwall 12-23-1999, 02:29 PM Bill, I have that same motherboard. This board makes it very easy to overclock. If you are overclocking at all, be sure to watch the speed of the memory bus. I overclock and can overclock to the limitation of my memory. I run a combo of PC66 abd PC100 sdram. The max I can go to is around 79mhz on memory speed. If I go past this I start getting the fatal exception error 0E and/or page fault errors, which are memory errors. I then have to back off a little and it will work fine. Just something else to look at with the motherboard and the memory errors your getting. aw Starcraft_Ak 12-23-1999, 08:21 PM i get those same errors but only when i run at a bus speed other than 100MHz. i run at 95 and i get the errors and if i run at 105 i get the errors too what is my problem? i know that it's pc100 ram by the chip #s Tuba 12-24-1999, 01:47 PM To: Starcraft_Ak Your problem is probably that the RAM only just meets the PC-100 specs. This means that they can run 100MHz, and not very much faster. (Perhaps 102 - but only perhaps...) - I've encountered this problem with my own RAM, and should probably buy some MCT PC-100 when I get to my next upgrade ;-) Just bought an overclockable mobo... (The old one wasn't...) BBA 12-24-1999, 02:12 PM Are you overclocking? If not, almost any ram will handle the 66Mhz FSB ( Celerons all run at default 66Mhz FSB if not OC'd)...it is still possible but a low probability that the ram can be defective. Have you tried to remove all cards except for video? Any errors? bmckay55 12-27-1999, 10:29 AM Brandon. You were right about the memory. I switched memory; the pc with the faulty memory crashed & the original one ran fine. Brought back the memory, got a new piece, and now am ready to play with overclocking. Strange, I thought memory was the first thing I had checked, but I bet when I first switched it, I had just shut down, not removed all power from the board by unplugging the cord. Thanks again.
