my system is running in msdos compatibility mode and I click on it to find out why and it tells me that windows does not reconize the drivers that are causing the problems...what should I do at this point? I show no conflicting drivers in system...also I have a high squeel coming out of my computer...thanks for any help you can give me Ken

I had them same thing happen to me. I ended up doing a reinstall and that fixed it. Are their any conflicts in Device manager or yellow ! next to any devices(right click on system then click on device manager tab)?

Yeah, I remember that years ago happening to me on my Packard Bell. Also remember it saying that my computer may have a virus which was thought to be making my computer run in compatibility mode. I fixed it only by repartitioning and formating my drive. My guess was a software issue that was making the problem arise. I know, even though you wont notice a very large decline in performance, it pissed me off not to see my system running in 32 bit mode. Good Luck.

This will usually take care of your problem http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

This problem most often occurs when a motherboard is installed in a system that had Windows95 previously installed. The problem here is that when one upgrades their system with an Amptron or any other “newer” motherboard, the drivers already installed for the previous motherboard’s IDE controller may be different than the IDE controller drivers of the new motherboard. Thus Windows95 compensates by using the “fail-safe” 16bit real mode drivers and you get exclamation marks by your hard disk controller icons in the systems manager. The method by which you resolve the problem is as follows: (1) Backup the registry files for Win95 (System.dat and User. at) (2) Use the regedit program in the Windows subdirectory (3) Locate the NOIDE entry down the following folder branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CURRENTCONTROLSET > SERVICES > VXD > IOS (4) Click on the NOIDE entry on the right side of the regedit program and hit delete. (5) Confirm your deletion and exit the program. (6) Reboot and Windows95 should aumatically redetect the protected mode drivers.
