I recently switched from a socket 7 mobo w/ a AMD K6-2 300 to a Soyo 6VBA-133 slot 1 mobo w/ a Celeron 433 PPGA to slot 1 converter. I have 128 SDRAM. For some reason my computer seems to be slower than what it originally was. I can't seem to figure this out, if anyone could help.... Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure on this as I have an AMD, but dont the celerons use the 66mhz bus?
That would probably account for apparent speed difference.
But dont hold me to that as I really am not sure.

well i dont own a celeron but how about running SiSoft Sandra benchmarks to verify that its slower... you can get it here http://www.sysopt.com/sandra.html
its free !
Run the CPU and memory benchmarks. Then compare your results to other postings on this forum.

Yes the Celerons do. So the 66 Mhz bus is the reason for the slow down?

More than likely, try popping it up a bit(this wil o/c your cpu so keep na eye on it as the celly's are multiplyer locked), maybe try it at 75/83 and see if it is any quicker.

I tried benchmarking with Sandra and the CPU benchmark is faster than a PII 300 but the Memory benchmark is my system: 83 to a PII 300: 125
Is this the problem and how do I fix it?

Thanks Nathan. The old chip was on a 100 Mhz bus with a 3X clock multiplier.

And another thing. I can't seem to figure to lower the ram latency. Is it called ram latency or anything else?

I am not familiar with Soyo. sorry
Try looking for a field called CAS delay, or RAS to CAS delay. The adjustment is usually describe in bus cycyles (2T=2cycles, 3T=3cycles). Is your RAM PC100 rated or PC66??
I would overclock FSB first, like Richamies said. IMO decreasing latency should be done after you have pushed up the FSB as much as possible first. That way you OC everything. One thing kinda concerning about the 75/83 FSB rates are the non-standard buss rates hitting the other devices PCI/ISA?HD(just letting ya know).
On the other hand, if you want all you buss rates to be normal. latency is about all you got left to increase speed.
Your CPU is locked at 6.5 multiplier and 100MHz FSB (the next "standard" FSB rate) =650MHz is doubtfull (without serious cooling)... well maybe http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif naa better not! hehe
It would be interesting to note the increase in speed to you with just decreasing Ram latency (CAS latency).

Go into your bios and then Soyo combo setup. There you can set your DRAM speed to 100MHz even though your Celeron runs at 66. Hope this helps. Thats if you spent the extra bucks for PC 100 memmory.

You may have had a K6-2 300 that ran on 100MHz FSB and your celeron definily has a default FSB of 66MHz.. Can you verify weather you K6=2 300 was made for 100MHz (they came both ways 66/100 MHz). get the spec off of the chip and check here.. http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/tipsarchive.html or you may know by settings on your old MB.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
You may want to decrease Ram latency in BIOS. (especially if you are using PC100 w a 66MHz FSB)this will greatly improve mem-benchmark results..
edit- removed extremely stupid socket7 MB question (of course they did nathan!) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif
