I have an old Compaq, ick, DX4-100 (9548?) with motherboard and daughter board. The motherboard will only detect a hard drive of 503 Mb. Is there a Bios flash out there for me? Is there a certian board out there that does support a larger HD; I've a 4.3 Quantum and a 1.6 Maxtor. Does anyone have a DX4-100 board that will fit in a normal ATX/AT case for sale/christmas gift?

Thanks in advance,
Chaostician

They used to make EIDE controllers that had a bios override that allowed you to install larger HD on machines that could only handle 500 meg. Don't know if anyone sells them anymore.

Both Quantum and Maxtor have drive overlay programs which will enable full use of the drives with older bios. Check those out.

Thanks Underclocked, I'll try those sites and get back with you on the info I've found.

IBM's disk manager also supports the overlay thingy, not sure if you can download it or what, but I have a copy here if you want it!

Agree with Underclocked, the utilities from Quantum and Maxtor work very well for over-riding older bios limitations.

Should you decide you still need an older DX4-100 board....let me know via email, I have two I am willing to part with (CPU included) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

You guys/gals are awsome!!! It worked like a charm... I downloaded the Quantum Disk Manager and booted, it did the rest!

Thanks for all the help!
