hello.
Well I just got an internal Iomega 250zip drive and I can't get it setup properly. is there anything I should have known before I Installed it? Right now the software is telling me its not there, although I put it in connected and all. any advice?
Check your cables & make sure they are seated right. Have you alerted your bios that this drive is there? It should be listed as a boot option there.

well how about a run thru of your exact steps you took to get as far as you did so far..the more info listed the more easier it is to diagnose...
and you might check to see if you set the jumper correctly on the drive to master or slave depending on if it is on its own IDE controller or running with another drive on the same IDE ribbon...also checking in the bios to see if it is being properly detected also..have you checked thru the motherboard's manual to see if it has any info on zip drives?...hope that helps...

I have an internal 100Mb Zip drive as slave on the Secondary IDE Controller. I have that specific IDE connection set as "None" in the CMOS Setup (as per Iomega's instructions). I presume the 250Mb version should be set the same way. The BIOS automatically recognises it, along with the CD-ROM drive, in the startup screens but both are set to "None" in Setup. Both work fine.

ok, well to begin with we put the zip under the floppy drive. then I took the cable from the hardrive and connected it to the zip drive, along with a power supply cord. we have the red stripe on the right, we loaded the software for the iomega drive, and rebooted the computer, and nothing came up, so we are at a loss as to what to do.

You didn't answer Commodsquad's questions: how did you set the jumper on the Zip drive? Also, if you're running it as slave to the (only?) hard drive you may also have to set the jumper on the hard drive to "slave present" or "master" (as opposed to "single").
Also, you don't mention your Setup settings in the CMOS.

zip drives do not need to be specifically recognized by the bios since they run off of the software that you installed. make sure that the drive is set to slave and the hd set to master or the bios will not see a boot record and will not do anything.

ok. what do I change in the bios? I haven't done anything in bios yet, otherwise I would have said so. Just tell me what to do and consider it done.

I have a 100 meg zip in my computer I have it setup as a slave to my hard drive. I installed the software and it found the drive with no trouble. As far as I know you don't have to setup the BIOS for it I didn't. Just make sure you have the #1 wire on the data cable toward the power plug on the zip. Then make sure the jumpers are setup correctly on both the hard drive and the zip and it should go unless there is something wrong with the drive which is likley. Good Luck Butch
