I just bought an Asus PG191 19" TFT monitor as my old one broke, I have a question ..
If I use a higher resolution than my optimal resolution, will this damage my monitor ?

There is no higher resolution than optimal. TFTs have a distinct amount of pixels, and higher input resolutions will simply be scaled back down by the monitor.

Well the optimal is 1280x1024 but I have always used 1600x1200 for my games, they do allow me to run on 1600x1200 with nicer results than the optimal res, but Im still unsure wether this can cause damage ?

like Peter said, regardless of how high you set it to be
it will still run back at the Original size of the monitor
if it's 19" it'll usually be 1280x1024 (normal) or 1440x900 (wides)
on all the LCDs i've used if you got higher say to 1600x1200 it will automatically revert back to 1280x1024, or run in like a Virtual Desktop, where you scroll across the screen, for the stuff you don;t see
in Games it'll just jump back to 1280x1024 full screen or stretched
