Hi all, I hope someone can help me on this one.

I just moved house and took the big step in buying a LINKSYS wireless G router (with speedbost) plus the wireless adapter that comes free with the thing (PC world offer).

I set it up without using any of the software (windows auto config) and it all works fine.

The strange thing is that the PC downstairs runs a between 54mps to 1mps (more often then not 1mps) whilst the upstairs PC works at the full 54mps.

Could anyone advise me what I can do to increase the speed on the 1mps PC??.

The signal strength is shown as excellent and the router points at the adapter in a clear and unobstructive line.

I am totally at a loss.

Cheers.

G.

if anything, you need to adjust the angle of the antenna on the router. the range of wifi is more like a donut around the antenna, rather than a sphere.

My 2.4 ghz phone base station gives my downstairs reception havoc at times . The laptop definitely cannot be between the two without surfing coming to a crawl .

Cheers, I stuck it on the wall and now it averages at 48mps which is good enough.

The internet is a bit wierd though. Some times I am conected to the network but not the internet. I have to unplug the power supply and reinsert it to get the broadband working, but other then that, all is well.

Cheers.

Have you flash update the router and modem to the latest versions of the firmware for each yet?

If your router is a WRT54G version 5 or 6, they are nothing but problems, lock-ups and such.
