I bought a new hard drive. Set the new one to Primary Master, and the older one to primary slave. I booted it from the CD at first, installed windows (formatted the whol drive aswell during boot). Then after that I restarted and went into the BIOS again to set my BIOS boot priority back to default.

When I go to My Computer -> Right click on C:\ (which is the new primary master hard drive) -> Properties : It then says "122 GB used space, and 110 GB of free space." The new Harddrive is a Western Digital 250GB storage 7200 RPM and 8MB cache. When I go to drive D:\ properties (which is the older drive) the data is reading correctly (used/free space).

Jumper settings: New one in the middle (master), and the old one to slave. I even went into the BIOS, and it has detected them correctly.

What is this weird problem ? The drive is working right now, everything is fine. It's just that it says my HD space is 50% full LOL!

what version of windows did you install? if it's xp, you need at least a xp sp1 cd to recognize the drive properly.

you need to have a slipstreamed SP1 or SP2 cd.

Time to make a slipstream CD and then do a complete format and reinstall of the new XP with SP2 installed.

Thats great. Now you know how to do it again the second time. It shouldn't take as long then.

Yeah I'm done burning the CD-image.

I am scared it might not work though, since I don't have Nero anymore, I had to use a free burner software.

Now lets hope it works...

Okay, it says

"Cannot load DOS! Press any key to retry."

WTF ?

You do not need DOS to install Windows.

What exactly did you burn?

Thanks again for pointing out that streamstream method. It worked, I burned the disc like 5 different times LOL.

I just didn't burn it properly. I think I was burning it as a plain data disc, lol.

You guys saved me 30 bucks BTW.
