It is there so Compaq can access your computer remotely for tech support calls. Unfortunately you cannot permanently disable it, as far as I have seen. You have to disable it every time you reboot and it should be gone for that session. Mntsnow 12-22-1999, 10:26 AM YOu should be able to disable that Icon and program from running by editing the registry. If my memory serves me right you will find it under the local machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/Run Key from there you can delete the registry key that deals with that program. *disclamer* Backup your registry BEFORE playing in there as I can not be held responsable for your errors. Mntsnow Pantion 12-22-1999, 02:01 PM If you don't want to get into the registry use msconfig.exe. Just go to "startup" tab and deselect the compaq stuff from there. narayan 12-22-1999, 03:18 PM thanks for the tips. in our current rotten state of the union i understand the need for a "disclaimer". unfortunately we need to do that once in a while. i just want to say that if I f/up, it is my doing. even if i am following instructions. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif now on to the registry!!! well i did the msconfig.exe instead. thanks for the tips! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by narayan (edited 12-22-1999).] Mntsnow 12-22-1999, 07:30 PM Dig in! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif Mntsnow daveleau 12-23-1999, 03:02 AM Please let me know if you got it disabled. I have not been able to get rid of the sucked. I've used programs to take it out and goen intot he registry but haven't had any luck. Thanks-dave narayan 12-23-1999, 03:22 PM msconfig.exe is the ticket. it does not start those stupid programs and my machine boots faster, also. SysOpt.com
