Hi,

I recently bought a shiny new PC and I'm having trouble setting up my ADSL internet connection. I have a Speedtouch USB modem and am running Win XP. Both green lights are on suggesting USB and ADSL connections are good but when I try to dial up via internet explorer I get "unable to establish connection". Under internet options/connections/settings/properties/general - I get "Modem removed - Unavailable device (COM1)". The modem works fine on my old PC. I have transferred across the driver and settings appropriately. The modem appears in my device manager list and is enabled. My new PC has an ethernet card - I don't know if this might be causing a conflict. My PC appears to see my USB modem as a LAN connection in network connections - don't know what to make of that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Why not call your DSL provider and get them to walk you thru the setups. You are paying for their tech support service. They will know every setting you need installed.

Tried that - they suggested the usual "reinstall drivers" etc etc which didn't resolve the problem. They suggested it might be a hardware issue but as the modem works fine on my old PC, so I doubt that's the problem.

Get those cheap SOBs at BT to give you a real Ethernet modem. If you have a combo modem, use the Ethernet connection instead.

Hi!!! :t

Bill's right! if you have a combo adsl modem go for ethernet instead of USB, it's a painless installation 99.99% of the time :P
