yesterday I used a program called KILLDISK to erase my hard drive (which I have done 2 times before) The program writes the hard drive over with zeros as I understand. After it was done put my XP disk in and went to reload XP. The system loads all the drivers for about 30 seconds and then at the bottom of the screen it says "starting windows". I hear the cd rom speed up, and then the whole computer just shuts off completely?
What is going on and how do I fix it. I looked in the CMOS and everything looks normal. I dont really know that much about BIOS. I looked there and I cant do anything in it. There is a message saying "the number of disks is not adequate to create a RAID". I know that has something to do with the hard drive. Is this the problem? How do I fix it?
I am not really a computer tech, but I am trying to learn. Any instructions you can give would be appreciated, but please say them in english so that someone who is computer illiterate like myself can understand.
thanks
jeff

First why did you zero write the drive to start with....any errors or problems then?

no there were not any problems that I know of---I usually just wipe the drive after a while to start fresh and get rid of any unwanted programs. The computer does not realy have any important things on it that I dont have already stored

There is a message saying "the number of disks is not adequate to create a RAID".

You need to try and Disable RAID since it isn't what you are wanting.

how do i do that? --And how do i know that I dont want it?

you can't run RAID with one drive.

so how do I disable it? In the CMOS?--The CMOS is the only thing that I know how to access at this point

if the one hard drive had partitions--would that act like two drives and enable a RAID?

No. You need at least two drives for RAID.

you need to get into the BIOS and check your settings. CMOS is the physical chip.

What motherboard and hard drive do you have? Since you don't seem to have a clue as to the proper BIOS settings, we can figure it out from there.

"If the one hard drive had partitions--would that act like two drives and enable a RAID?"

This can be done but it is risky. For one, the HDD is working extra hard and secondly if the HDD fails you loose everything even if using RAID1.

All you need to do is go to the setting pertaining to RAID in the BIOS Setup programs, highlight it, hit Enter and you should get the option to enable or disable. You need to disable.

What motherboard are you using?

Read the motherboard manual please.
