I searched through my old stuff and found my old printer that came w/ my old 286AT. It was kind of dusty, Panasonic KX-1180.
Panasonic said that production was discontinued years ago. It figures...
Well, when I print in DOS, using "PRINT SCREEN" on the keyboard, its prints real fast bi-directionally. But in win9x, it prints in a single direction, and very slow too no matter what the resolution, spooled or not.
Now why does this happen????

Windows may be giving the info to a generic driver. Windows may have grouped your printer into the 'old Panasonic' group and Windows might use a driver for all printers that fall into this grouping. The fact that your printer handles bi-directional printing is ignored.
If what I have suggested is true (I have come upon these answers with much concertration and knowledge of MS laziness) you might try to install the DOS driver in windows (or find a newer driver, but since it has been discontinued maybe not). Click on change driver in Device Manager and have your system find the local of the DOS driver.
Hope this helps, or at least entertains...

Sounds like a driver issue. Did Panasonic say anything about having a win95 driver for your printer? - Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to ask. You might try loading a driver from a similar printer from Panasonic and see if it'll take the same command set. You might get lucky.
Is the bi-directional printing feature really important to you? - If you're going with a printer that old, you don't appear to be out for speed exactly? - Is it a desire to get the most out of the ribbon - perhaps?

I'll get the DOS drivers from panasonic.
And your right, they said the drivers is w/ windows--that figures...
Desire.... that's it. Its not a need really. But i really want to get the best of everything. just like overclocking and stuff.
I have an idea, how about i use drivers from a more modern dot matrix, would it work? Well, i hope 'cause i'm trying it now.
Thanks.
