This has really baffled me. My system seems to take forever to load into win98. and sometimes it hangs when its loadin, but it does'nt freeze, because I still have access to my keyboard. When I reboot I give the option to keep a log and most of the time it loads, somtimes I have to load into safe mode then load to normal windows. It seems to hang whenever I load a new program or change something drastically. I've never had this happen before only after I upgraded my motherboard and processor.

AMDk6-2 w/EPOX EP-MVP3G, network card, ATI all in wonder 128bit, quantum HD, 3 32MG dimms, etc.

Has anyone had this problem, and can somebody help me?

Hmmm, after seeing your configuration, I just had to comment. At least 3 of the items in your computer are, if not known problem causers, iffy without the proper drivers and such. AMD has at least 1 Windows patch or some such. The MVP chipset always seems to be popping up in tech questions and ATI's drivers leave MUCH to be desired. However, the first thing you should do is find and install that AMD patch. Someone else on this board should be able to point you in the right direction. I'm not sure, but I think there are either driver updates or patches or something for MVP chipsets and if the problem is the ATI card... I can't even begin to help you on that one. I do seem to recall problems with the TV functions on those cards and that might be causing your problems... Oh, don't get me wrong on the AMD chips. They're great(I was just commenting on the need to that patch) But the other 2 items... One little bit here. I noticed that after I installed my network card, Windows loading would pause for about 30 seconds after the virus scan on boot up. That's something to look into as well.

the AMD patch I believe your talking about is only for systems run windows 95a
it could be your network card if you have a option in your bios for PnP OS installed try changing it to no. and see if that helps

the other thing I would check is your power supply is it sending the correct voltages to the system ?
you can also try uping the V-core voltage to the AMD chip by .1 volt
that about all I can think of right now http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I failed to mention that when in win98 it works fine. It just acts up in the loading process.... no errors just hangs and you can still use the key board. By the way I will try the voltage. Would overclocking help and what would be the safest setting for the system?

if you want to try overclocking it you need to find out why it's doing this first.
what amd k6-2 do you have ?
also how much stuff do you have auto loading when windows start's ? how old is your power supply ? have you cleaned all the dust bunny's out of your case? made sure all your cables are conected all the way and all your memery chips and add on cards are seated all the way ? just some more things to check http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

hmmm, after reading your post for the second time I take it that you changed your mobo and processor and that you just installed all the parts from your old configuration...I could be wrong but I am thinking that since you have a whole different config set up now that the OS might be kinda mixed up LOL I dont mean to make fun of your situation just the fact that the OS is mixed up ..but what I'm saying is that the chipsets have changed from what was already configed on your harddrive in the OS and the new mobo's BIOS set up and probably various other things like IRQ's and the system device set up ..did you try booting into safe mode and checking whether there are multiple entries of components or exclamation symbols indicating config probs in the device manager? if you find some or all of the indicators i mentioned you could highlight all of the entries that are in multiples and click on the remove button and reboot to have the OS re install the components..also you could try clicking on the refresh button when you open up the device manager and see if that helps the OS update to your new congfigurations..
hope I helped even just a little http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Just for info I have a k6-2/400 chip. and when I changed MOB's I Fdisk the HD and checked every thing. Has anyone used the EPOX board that I've had with the processor?

I've read that people have had problems with AMDk6-2 350's and they had to overclock or something....
