Does any one know of a way to test the floppy disk controller. I have an epox EP-MVP3G2 board and had a hard drive go bad, replaced drive but now my floppy won't work. When I start up the computer I get to the Verifying DMI Pool Date and Then I get the DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. The light comes on in the floppy drive and you can hear it running but goes back to the DISK BOOT FAILURE.
Tried new cables, put floppy drive in a different computer which worked OK, checked bios settings everything OK. I think the floppy controller is MADD!!! This board is only 4 months old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have seen this on old IBM systems, anbd compaq systems also, the bios setup program is stored on the hard disk, and you need a proper bios system disk in order to boot and enter the bios setup program.
not seen it on clone(generic) system boards though

I have no problem entering my bios setup, I've double and triple checked my bios settings to make sure that the FDD controller is enabled, but still won't work.

Another stupid question, do you have the system files on the floppy?

Disks are fine. wouldn't do any good anyway because as I said in my first question Floppy will not read disks. I have built computer's for around 3 years now and have never seen a problem like this before, that's why I'am thinking the motherboard's floppy controller said bye-bye. Look's like a new board, an of course just before christmas.

Yes, there is another way and it's called a loop back plug.
I'd have to do some digging to see where you could purchase it seperately, but it does come with the Deluxe version of Check-It Pro www.checkit.com (http://www.checkit.com) and can be bought at your local CompUSA.
Essentially what you do is plug it into your LPT port and run the software provided and it will check all signals coming and going through your LPT.

First thing I did was check cable alignment. Does anyone know of way to check floppy controller to be sure if motherboard is good or not?

I lost my floppy in a similar situation and resetting the cmos jumper on the board to clear cmos brought the floppy back.
Couldnt hurt to try that. You just installed a new hdd? Maybe the floppy cmos data got changed when you told bios about the new hdd??
My problem was on an older Biostar board, not sure it would do any good on a newer board...

Update: Tried clearing the cmos also. Bought a new motherboard and everything is cool back to running again. Must have been the floppy controller, am going to send in for warranty and will post with results. Thanks for everyone's input but when it's broke it's Broke!!!
