Willing to spend 87 bucks?
thats how much my 10x DVD/40x CD cost me!
Its a pionner Slot drive...
look up '104s' on www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com)

I might add its possibly the best purchase ive ever made!
cheap, and works great, and a slot loading drive!

For a Std. CD-Rom I have been pleased with the Kenwood 40X ( with the multibeam Zen Technology thingamagiggy written all over box http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif ). They dont seem to havea problem with recordable media. They can be purchased for about $60.00 @ ChumpUSA ever since the 72X came out.. I did have one fail within first year but Kenwood replaced it within a week, with a 52X . wow how many times you hear that. Good customer service/support thannks Kenwood http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Absolutely adore every Plextor unit I have had. Currently using the 40x UltraMax. Reads CDR's and CDRW's....all modes/formats. Rock solid CDROM and FAST. Recent prices on Pricewatch.com have them for under $75 US.

Any new CDRom drive you go and buy today should work with cdr's. Its when you get into dvd that it "may" not work. However finding a dvd drive that doesn't is getting rare. I have a HiVal 50+x for like $30 that works great. My 2cents is: Don't need to spend a lot of $ to get a CD drive save that for something else.

With Target, Plextor is great.

If DVD is your thin, then get the Pioneer 10X DVD, quite operation is another of it's good points besides those listed above.

If SCSI is your thing, there is no rival to Plextor

for IDE, Kenwood would be first choice, for reliability and quiet operation and good performance, Aopen comes in first.
