Try what Crunchy Frog suggested, but still there are programs that need to be run in MS-DOS mode or they could cause unwanted results on Win9x.

If you did what Crunchy Frog said and still windows wants you to enter MS-DOS mode then you'll have too, otherwise you won't be able to run the program.

To remove write protection, right click in the file you are modifying, select properties, and there will be 4 check boxes, system, hidden, read only, and archive.

I think the read only checkbox is self explanatory from here on......

CandyManCo says, start the computer in safe mode, apply the program patch, then reboot to windows.
Is this a good way to accomplish what I wanted to do????

what program patch? and can you explain further just what are you trying to do? becuz it seems to me that you are being really general with your questions and also you are getting some erratic (but good general) answers here that might not even pertain to your problem...didnt mean that to sound so curt LOL just thought it might help if we had some more info....
