Just uncrated my newest toy a B/B unit, 400amd, 100mhz fsb, the mobo manual says it has "support" for 66 and 100mhz 3.3v SDRAM. Upon looking at the setup for bios and mobo, I see no jumpr or bios function for changing the memory speed. Will the 66mhz I'm fixin to install Smoke or Run? Or perhaps the mobo manual is thin just for brevity sake and the bios will tell me ?? any thoughts much appreciated..

You can use 66MHz mem on a 100MHz computer. If it will run or not depends on the quality of the ram. On the BIOS you can set the speed of the RAM.
On the BIOS you can change to automatic settings. Or put your own... just be carefull to give a good timing for the RAM refresh otherwise you'll loose data.

What would be considered "good" timing for the RAM, to avoid data loss? Does it differ from mfg to mfg. The ram I'm gonna install came out of my HP 6350/AMD-333, made by "OKI" . HP is supposed to use good RAM, as far as 66mhz sticks go anyway. I pulled it and put in a generic 128 stick, works great.

to run 66mhz @ 100mhz set cas to 3T, ras precharge to 3T, and ras to cas delay to 3T
if you have no problems you can try taking the ras-cas to 2 and work your way back up one at a time to 2T if you start getting errors change the last one back to 3T http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
almost all PC-66 10ns memery will do 100mhz with all then set to 3T http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

It's running at 100mhz, at least the BIOS says that. The chip is "OKI" mfg. is this good quality? I found in the bios the settings for 66mhz but to do this I had to underclock to 366mhz if memory serves correct, so I left it at 100mhz to see what happened. Runs so far.. thanks
