Need help loading CDrom driver

I am upgrading a friends puter I have partitioned and formated the new hard drive and loaded the sys files on and have also created a config.sys and an autoexec.bat file, but I am stuck on what I need to do next to load the cdrom driver from the floppy so I can load windows

Put the cd driver floppy in and type a:\setup
let it install then reboot...you should have access to the CD

You have to next install the cd driver disk. It should go on with out a problem some drivers have to have a file MSCDEX.EXE in the root directory to load. If you don't have it you can get one from the #1 disk of dos 6.0 and up. If you don't have a dos disk you can get one from www.bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com) I hope this helps. Butchk

When I put the floppy in and type install it asks me for the directory for it to be installed in. The defult c:\windows. It won't let me go any further

Is it asking you which directory to install the CD drivers in, or is it asking which directory the MSCDEX.exe is in? IF that file isn't there it will not load the drivers hard drive.

correct me if I'm wrong but inserting the 98 boot disk will give you cdrom support with generic drivers...it will ask you if you want cd support or not...say yes to that and you are on your way....if you have not installed an os then c:/windows does not exist!

if you are installing 95 then you will need to copy mecdex.exe to your c drive and then install drivers for cd from the disk
