Right...

Sometime soon I'm building up a new system and ideally want a silver slot-loading DVDRW drive to go with my flashy case. I've hunted around but can't find one anywhere!
Anyone got any ideas if I can get my hands on one?

Cheers

Slot loaders are all but gone, there are still some slimline ones.

You get silver when you buy a retail Samsung drive. These come with an off-white bezel on, and have black and silver ones in the box.

Slot loaders look cool, but they seem to have more problem than tray style. buyer beware.

164 bucks! No WAY.

Slot loaders are going away for two reasons:

1. They can't load those mini CDs.

2. CDs can be a bear to get out when stuck. Pioneer resorted to using really strong springs to aid this, but they were so strong that it was hard to push the CDs in!

Tray players are easy to open with a paper clip.

$164? yeesh, even the Plextor 760s aren't that expensive. You could buy 3 or 4 DVDRW drives for that price.

It's not even a burner. It's a DVD player.

thanks for feedback, might be a good reason why there's not many around hey?
Don't really want to sacrifice reliability just for looks so may plump for a silver bezel tray.

on order...one dvdrw......one pack of paperclips.

The Pioneer slot loaders do handle mini discs btw. But yeah, apart from slimline notebook drives, the occasional upright slim PC and car audio, having a tray makes more sense.

The Plextor 716AL is the only slot-loading, full sized burner regularly available in the states. There are a few slim line types out there like those used in notebook drives. But once you buy the adapter etc., you may as well have bought the Plextor.
