server access

i have been asked to configure a server for outside access. i need to fix it so that an account can access the business records that are on this server so that he can do payroll for the business. the files are to be backed up onto the server from another computer on the network. any ideas? please keep it simple, i do know a little about computers but this one is new to me.

Sounds like the company needs a real, trained and experienced system admin.

Opening company financial records to an outside source without proper access restrictions is a very bad idea.
