Removable HD

Here's a thing. I have a removable HD carrier attached to my computer which I use to store all sorts, images, downloads etc.
I also just bought a 160 Gb drive for another computer and just wanted to check it out. I removed the existing drive (shown as L in my computer) and inserted the new one. Though it ding dongs OK it can't be seen.
It is a 160 Gb Seagate Barracuda Ultra ATA. Jumper set to cable select.

Is there something wrong somewhere?

You need to look in Disk Management (DISKMGMT.MSC). Disk Management is well hidden. The easiest way to get to it and other consoles is to right-click My Computer and select "Manage".

Here, you can import a drive, partition, format and reletter it. You *may* need to delete the partition and then recreate it, but just try assigning a letter.

It sounds like you did not partition and format the new drive yet.
