MORNING PPL

please help us out here. we trying to open a word document adnd then this is what we get.

office 2003, windows xp

Word experienced an error trying to open the file.
Try these suggestions
*Check the file permissions for the document or drive.
*Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space.
*Open the file with the Text Recovery converter.

Well the other two are fine, permissions and free memory. now the TEXT Recovery converter, doesnt open.

now the funny part is this one, when i right click the file and then Properties-Summary and then i get someting like Template value is msoE87E9. the other files that can open , their template is normal.

Please help out , we going bananas.

i tried googling the template value and found nothing.

Ta in advance

If someone who was using Office 2007 Beta opened the file and saved it, it's not compatible with Office 2003 any more.

thanx BipolarBill

the thing is im quite sure that where the user sits there is no one with office 2007 beta at the site. so that one we can rule out.

the other thing i forgot to mention is that the files can open with Wordpad

Is the formatting complex? Can you open it with Wordpad and paste the contents into Word?

You can also try Open Office:

I wasn't suggesting that you *keep* OpenOffice - just use it to open the file and copy it.

Have you tried a repair install of Office or even a full remove/reinstall of Office to clear this up?

maybe i misunderstood. anyway the user got another template of the departmental letter head from another user. same software(office 2003). but now the letter head from another user was done by himself not a copy of it.

Sterling_Aug, i tried repairing the whole suite, with no luck and then opted for totally removing it, still with no luck.

The user says now it is working shanana(fine).

Thanx for the help people
