I just got Ma an ECS motherbpoard off of Ebay and its a Sata1 board....can we run a Sata 2 hard drive on it and it will be compatible and merely run at SATA1 speeds or is it a no-no....thanks and excuse me if its a dumb question....just figured it was quicker to ask you all rather than spend the time researching it on the net

yes you can run SATAII drives on a SATAI board. you may need to use a compatibility jumper to go from 3G to 1.5G, but that's about it.

you can also check out the SATA links here: Best of Data Storage (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162275)

You could also get a PCI SATA controller and use the full potential of the SATAII drives.
