Hi everyone!

I have problems with my home wlan network. This issue really annoyes the S**t out of me so I am very very grateful for any tips whatsoever!

Ok, to the problem.
I just bought a new computer for my spouse, so we now have one stationary computer and one laptop. and of course they both need internet. So, I bought this:

Buffalo airstation whr-g54s router for cable or dsl (I have cable)

Now the thing is the first day when I tried to set it up, everything worked great!
I changed the wan mac address on the router so my cable worked, no problem. Then I set up the wireless laptop, and everything worked smoothly. I then set up the encryption to some lower level encryption. Everything worked great and I set up a small network.

Well the next day I started to think I should set up the wap encryption, I did this, and now my laptop can´t connect anymore. The funny/annoying thing is that the laptop tries to connect to the router, but cant get an ip address. I have reset the router to factory and even re-installed windows on the laptop. The laptop obtains ip address automatically, and dhcp is enabled on the router. (I´ve checked this and double/triple checked)

When I try to connect without encryption I get a connection, but the icon representing my wireless network doesn’t change and my laptop still says that I´m not connected! This although I can surf on the net!
I hope I have mentioned everything that could be important, but if I have forgotten something please ask.

thanks in advance!

Not all wireless adapters support WAP or WAP2 out of the box. Many times, a driver update is required. Sometimes, Windows Update has the appropriate drivers and Automatic Updates fetches it for you. You may miss it because you don't examine the updates before accepting them. This is probably what happened.

It's always a good idea to update wireless adapter drivers when setting up a network.

I do not know if that is what happens you, but as general notion.

Most people generate the encryption code by entering a pass phrase in the Router, and using the same pass phrase in the Wireless Card.

If the Router and the card are not of the same manufacturer, and or are of the same manufacturer but developed in different times, there is always a slight chance that the hex code that is generated from the pass phrase by the Router, and the one generated by client card would not be exactly the same.

If switching on encryption yields none function connections, there is a good chance that by generating a code in the Router and copying the hex string to the Wireless Client would solve the problem.
