PC doesn't recognize shut-down? I can shut down windows normaly, but , when I go to turn pc back on it says windows was not shut down properly and it runs scandisk.
Also, it suddenly can't read from c: drive and won't boot?

Try the following... run msconfig.exe and on the button that reads "Advanced..." click on it and check the option "Disable fast shutdown".

Also scandisk could be the problem so also check mark the option "Disable scandisk after bad shutdown".

Windows Update has a patch for shutdown problems with Win98 and certain hardware configurations. windowsupdate.com

Well, ended up having to reformat the darn thing. Not too sure what's going on. Think I may have a continuing ram problem. Just loaded Win. 98 1st edition. I was running Win. 98 second edition. Ram is old non EDO ram. FPM ram I think. Board will support 3.3 volt Sdram. 2 Slots for it. Figure I will pick up a stick of 32 meg Sdram and see what happens. Thanks everyone for the info. Keep the info coming if you have any more ideas. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
