I am having trouble trying to get my broadband connection working.
Here's the basic scenario:
I have a wireless modem router:
(Linksys Wireless-G ADSL gateway with Speedbooster, WAG54GS-UK
Built-in ADSL Modem, Compatible ADSL2+ Broadband - up to 25Mbps
802.11B/G Wireless standards - up to 125Mbps using Speedbooster
4 x 10/100 Ethernet ports, built-in firewall & security settings)
I previously had a USB modem for ADSL which worked fine. I then went a few months without BB, before getting a new connection.
Now that my service has started, i tried to configure the modem, and for this purpose hard wired my pc to the modem, for configuration purposes, so there's an ethernet cable between my pc and one port on the modem.
when trying to configure the router, i get an error message stating something about there there being tcp/ip configuration issues. the system couldn't find any information.
So i have tried the following two solutions:
i configured the tcp/ip settings of my lan port on the pc to 192.168.1.5, and the gateway to 192.168.1.1, but i still get the same error message.
then i tried to set the IP addresses to auto, but same error message again.
I tried to connect to the router via IE connecting to 192.168.1.1, and no joy, BUT i am able to ping it from my pc no problem. that is what is very confusing.
A friend's laptop was able to connect to a port on the modem, configure my router, and connect to the net, meaning that there are no issues with the modem/router or my BB connection.
I then tried to use my usb wireless adaptor to connect to the modem, and again i can ping the router, but i cannot connect to it with IE, or get on to the web.
when i try to use my ISP's installation cd, it performs a check to see if it can connect to the net, and it complains that it can't.
The firewall is disabled, and as i said, a laptop is able to connect, but my pc isn't.
I am running windows XP, and i haven't updated any software on it in around 6 months. Has there been any patches or updates for issues for tcp/ip connections that i may have missed, or can anyone please help with what the problem could be??
cheers
