...Agreed! each manufacturer usually has their own proprietiory security system\method that only works on their products! for a detailed response you need to post make & model information.

the wireless router is a generic compusa brand. i have the manual on disk for the wireless router, and can acces the security setup interface, but am reluctant to start messing with it. anyone have any experience with this and suggestions?

Please - start messing with it. Read the part in the manual about resetting defaults in case you mess up.

We here that actually help other members buy brand-name wireless equipment. I doubt that anyone here is familiar with CompUSA stuff.
