My bios is screwed, I tried to flash my bios with a newer version and now it thinks I have a 266mhz when its 233, and it gives me a fdc error two beeps then one more beep. And my floppy drive won't work. I don't know what to do.
Is there some way to get my floppy drive back online so I can get my old version of my bios back on there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

the chip is a cyrix pr233 and i'm not sure exactly what motherboard think eurone m571 or alton m571 look exactly the same, I used the bios upgrade from the eurone site.
Do you think I flashed it with the wrong one?
Do you think I need a new bios chip? Or can I fix it? Thanks for any help

Seems like you flashed your computer with a wrong BIOS. And since you can't get the floppy to work that would be a big problem.
Hmm... you may try to get a floppy controller card to get the drive work again and flash the BIOS. Or create an autoexec.bat or any other batch file to flash your BIOS from your HDD.

Start with the basics, can you enter the BIOS configuration screen? If so check that your floppy drive is configured correctly i.e. 1.44MB etc.
If that didn't work, try clearing the CMOS by shorting the appropriate jumper on your motherboard - consult the manual - or removing the COMS battery for 20 minutes, or whatever method is indicated by your manual, then go back into BIOS and reconfigure CMOS settings.
If the BIOS chip is removable it is also possible to reflash it in a BIOS flasher - consult your local computer shops.
It is also possible to reflash the chip in another system, but this is highly unadvisable: you will likely kill the second system as well, but here is how to do it:
First, carefully remove your corrupt BIOS chip;
Next, boot a similar system with the same kind of BIOS (i.e. Phoenix, Award, etc) using a DOS 6.22 boot disk that contains only the bare system files, the flash program, and the CORRECT BIOS binary;
Now, without shutting down (do not power down) REMOVE the GOOD BIOS chip and insert the BAD BIOS chip in its place;
Finally, reflash the chip using the flash program and BIOS binary; i.e. A:\>flash73 123xyz.bin once flash is done power down and switch BIOS chips again. Reboot and check both systems - CONGRATULATIONS, YOU PROBABLY NOW HAVE TWO SYSTEMS THAT WON'T BOOT.
better off to just buy a new motherboard.

thaks guys, i think I'll try reflashing it. I'll have to move my harddrive to another computer and put the files I need on it. I don't think I want to switch chips around I would definatly screw that up. Yeah I think I flashed it with the wrong one, I'll find out what it really is.
