Has anyone heard of a plan by the post office to charge internet users 5cents per e-mail sent because of revenue lost to e-meil users?
Would this mboard be concidered as a taxable message forum ya think if that happened? Should we ever be charged for coming up with ideas that save people time and money? Did the aircraft companies owe anything to the railroad for getting mail and people to their destinations quicker? Billions lost by one man, is billions saved by another...or is it a penny saved is a penny earned? #$&%!! anyone who wants to take one more nickle out of our pocket!!

where did you get your info from? im curious... email has nothing to do with the US post office, so how can they charge anything for it? that would be like them charging us for using phones because they loose revenue because people call each other instead of writing letters! if you have a url or an article somewhere that you should show me, i would like to look at it, but if you just heard if from someone, i think it is a hoax and a rumor that someone started.

Unfortunately, it's not a hoax, I have heard about this on the news. But I don't know where this issue stands at the moment.

The US Postal Service would spend more money that it is worth to even try and figure a way to track all of the email's sent in one day. It's kinda like the ICQ rumor that they are going to charge a monthly fee. It's all hog wash.

this post made me scramble for todays paper. there is an article in it that "the Internet Engineering Task Force" what ever that is, wants every computer to have a serial number, this number would be imbeded in every bit of data. thus every msg could be traced back to the computer.
will there be a waiting period and regestry next??gun owners take note /forum/frown.gif
You can be sure the govt sees a big bucket of money there and will try to get their hands on it.

It is not a hoax, and fortunately (and obviously) it is not yet reality. I received a notice a couple months ago that a bill was introduced in the U.S. Congress regarding this very topic. It is likely listed in the Federal Register. I had the number of the bill but I'm sad to write it was lost to me when a HD corrupted and data could not be retrieved from it. I'll look into it and follow up on this thread.

im wondering if this is just like that so called bill that was in congress about phone companies being able to charge a per minute charge for all internet access - i filled out this email form and emailed it to my congressmen to tell them to vote it down, and i got an email back saying that there was no such bill ever in congress. this so called "bill" was also on my local news and in the paper, and there were articles on the net about it, but it was never even in existence. ill bet that this is the same kinda deal. it just doesnt make any sense at all - how the post office can charge people for email. there is just no logic to it!

Greedy, little minds! If anyone can spend $350,000.00 to build an outhouse in a national park, I'm sure they'd lose more money trying to get a bite on the email
traffic.Our state education dept. misplaced,
lost, whatever 2.8 million, and whose gonna have to make up... The Tax payers. I wish that there was more intergity and commitment
in our government, remember those famous last words " I'm not a crook" Give me a break, please!!

the post office could not do this. think about snale mail, you do have other options to send stuff,(ups ect.) the only way they could do this is to set up a giant email server to send thru, but it would only be a option to do this. i pay 40$ a month for my cable internet service, and i have 6 email boxes to my dispense, that are owned by my internet provider, so it would be impossible for usmail to charge me for them, it would be like the mail man comandeering a ups truck, as funny as it would be, its not goina happen
