Raid 0 and hard drive size in windows

Heloo my favorite forum people: I have a quick question. If you havce 2 hd say 100gb ech and set it up for raid 0, do you see 2 hd in windows with 20gb each or you see 1hd of 20gb? Thanks.

if you use raid0, then it would show up as 1 200G drive.

If you are using raid 1, if one drive goes bad, you can swap the bad one out with a new one and rebuild the array, its the more secure array for that level, but raid 5 is better IMO for data security on your normal day to day small business server.

Hi all. Came back again because I really like this forum and all the help. :t

I have never setup raid but always have thought about it. My question is, if I have two 200gigs drives setup on raid 0, does windows see my drive as one 200gig drive or one 400gig drive? Thanks.

I think I did something wrong because I setup my cousin's p5b deluxe with a core 2 duo chip, 2 200gig hard drive, went in the raid setup and set them as raid 0, but in windows it's shown as one 400gig drive. Anyone knows what could have been wrong here? Thanks again!

That is what is supposed to happen. Please look at the link I posted.

The super short version
RAID0 = 200+200
RAID1 = 2 copies of 200 (200 effective usable space). they are like xerox copies of each other.

There are some crazy configs that would be used for servers. RAID5 is the highest level you'll probably see unless you work in enterprise storage.

RAID50 = take RAID5 arrays and stripe them, I.E. RAID5s then 0

RAID10 = take RAID1 arrays and stripe them, I.E. RAID1s then 0

RAID0+1 = take 2 RAID0 arrays and mirror them, I.E. RAID0s then 1
