Hi,
When trying to install 3dMark2000, it gets to the 'Click The Button' thing, installs that (whether I want it to or not - tried both) then stops and won't install further. No errors or anything, but I've downloaded this 19mg file twice with the same results - the benchmark program won't install. I have DX7 installed. I also have 3dMark99Max installed, do I need to uninstall that first?

What am I doing wrong? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

It could very well be that it won't install with the 3dMark99Max already on the system. Was there anything mentioned at the site regarding this?
There could also be something running in the background that is interfering with the install.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks Susan, well I didn't see anything at the site about uninstalling 3dMark99Max, but I guess I could try it. All programs were closed during attempted installs.
I know several ppl here are running 3dMark2000, but it seems like I'm the only here with this problem.
I've also emailed support@madonion. Here's the text to my request for support:
Win98
PIII 450 @527
DX7 installed
V770 2Ultra
All running tasks closed.
Previous version - 3dMark99Max is installed.
Running BlackIce Defender and proxy. Other security settings at Medium for
download.
Problem:
When attempting installation, the cab file unzips and the installation
begins. I get to the Click the Button part then, either option I choose,
CtB continues to initiate my DSL connection, CtB installs itself onto my
computer/systray, then the installation no longer continues. That is the
end.
No error messages, no bsod's, nothing. Have downloaded and attempted 2x.
both files are ±19mgs so does not appear to be corrupt.
Please help. Thanks.
----------------
I'm wondering if it could be an MS patch thing, or maybe I should run at default clock speed during the install? I'll try the latter first...

Yeah heck, I installed with virus scan, colorific, logitech mouse, powerleap control panel, 3d blaster control, disc detector, rain and SB Live! launcher all running in my sys tray. No probs. Quite honestly, lately when I install something, all this "****" is running in my tray.

This looks like it may end up where my MPEG 4 problem did... still unsolved.
Idea! Maybe I'll try installing on the backup drive, see if I get the same results. Anyway, thanks for responding, guys & Susan, and if anyone can think of anything... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

socalgal,
I installed with 3DMark 99 Max still installed, no problems. I now have both on my comp. I'd try doing an uninstall of the 3D 2000 thru Control Panel/Add Remove Programs if it's there. If you have CleanSweep then use that uninstall. Use RegClean and Norton Registry sweep if you've got it.
Then as suggested above, shut down whatever you can in systray. Use FIND to see if you still have "3dmark2000.exe" and try one more time.
Hope that does it.
Good luck,

You're welcome pickel, yes I hope someone blesses it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
EDIT: (!)
CHNsaw - The only thing that shows in Add/Remove is that CtButton, but I was lazy and didn't dig into regedit.. looks like that's the next thing to try. Thanks http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
EDIT:
Nothing there. As it's not installing, there is nothing in my registry. I'm driven now to find out why this program won't install.
As a sidenote, I just installed Encarta w/online updating and had no problem.

Question:
To those of you running 3dMark2000, do you all have the latest MS (win98) patches installed? i.e., from the Security Bulletins, WinUp Critical Updates, etc.?

socalgal,
I've got all Critical and Recommended Updates, I'm not sure about others. I do have Win 98 SE, Rain, Norton AV (As I write this I'm thinking that your AntiVirus may be the culpret) Can you do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and shut everything down except Systray and Starter prior to running the exe file? When I downloaded it, I placed it in it's own directory, before running it, but that shouldn't really make a difference.
Just for reference my exe file is 19,396 KB and contains 17 files which uncompressed are 40,128 KB as viewed in WinZip 7.0
Wish ya luck,

CHNsaw.... You are the Hero of the Day! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I downloaded it again (3x) after removing the previous download file. I closed all running programs/tasks except Explorer. I executed from the download file and that dang Click the Button thing came up again and then it stopped. Bummer!
Then, remembering what you said, I cut the downloaded .exe out of my downloads folder and placed it in a new folder on my desktop, and executed from there. Wonder of wonders - it started to install. Placing in its own folder/directory is the only thing I have done different but sure enough it's working. I am a very happy camper. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif A thousand thanks.
I'll be posting my benches over in plucky duck's thread in General real soon. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
