Hi Jim,
More info is needed like what mobo, specs, etc...It's way too hard to troubleshoot probs when questions being asked are too general and specific details are left out that sometimes could be the key to turn the tide of the situation towards a successful solution....

Well my first question would be...
have you considered cooling to be an issue?
good heatsink and fan is always a good idea even at stock settings..
what about video and driver settings?? is it onboard or a card?
have you triple checked the jumper configuration on the board or is it a soft menu so you can check out the processor config?
memory compatability or failure also comes to mind to check also...
Just some suggested avenues to check..
not sure if I helped tho....

That's a Biostar TX Chipset MB.
What video card are you running?

were you running Win98 before??
Have you tried re-installing OS??
How much RAM do you have?
Did you reformat HD??
Can you boot in safe mode?
You do have a heatsink w fan on that CPU, DONT you?
Sorry ... questions rather than answers but these are all things i would consider.

there should be some serial or card version numbers on the card somewhere maybe a sticker with some info on it or silkscreened onto the board itself..is it a pci card isa?
i know im not being much help right now
and it seems like im more full of questions than answers..
Hiya Dakota!
Your cpu bus should be set to 66 mhz for the pentium to run right.
When you removed the ram and put it in the new board, were you careful to ground yourself? Static electricity could have zapped it if you weren't.
Is all your ram registering at bootup?

.. check out all jumpers/Ram location on your MB , including CPU core and I/O voltage jumpers on MB. Here is info: http://www.biostar-usa.com/museum/Motherboards/8500TTD/8500ttdtech.htm may i ask again... how much Ram do you have installed? You didnt by chance mix speeds of RAM within a common bank did you?
ever considered trying 95b instead as a last resort?? (ensure something with the 98 install isnt the problem)

Have you tried "fishing" through the BIOS? looking for possible incorrect settings (disable Bussmastering, DMA, increase RAM latency settings).. Umm try just one pair of RAM at a time (maybe one is flaky)... Unplug cables from CD-rom for a quick test as well.
Yeah i am shot-gunning you. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Was this CPU/MB new??
How bout one of you "Senior" members or even a "Ultimate" . I will hold the door for ya an even get your walking cane!! hehe http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

The worst part of your problem is that you cannot even get into WIN in Safe Mode, which leads me to think you have a Video or jumper problem on the board.
Try switching the video card to another slot, and also, I know you've checked all the jumpers more than once, but physically remove the jumpers and reinstall them.

That's funny as I have the exact same memory setup in my other computer. 2 16 meg chips and 2 4 meg chips. They are both FPM memory too. Anyway, that graphics card should be a Cirrus Logic card. Unless the card is bad, I would find it unlikely that it would cause lockups like that. A setting change could cause them, but if it has been doing it for a while with no apparent "cause" then... It's quite possible that something that is being loaded by Windows in normal and safe mode is causing the problem. I had loaded the Diskwizard for my Seagate drive when I had a 486. Well, it added a line in one of the startup files that made it load in 16 bit mode. Windows did NOT like that and locked up everytime. I had to manually remove that line(found it by pressing F8 at startup and making it run through every program it wanated to load.) from the win.ini or one of those files before Windows would load again. I'm not saying you have this file, but you may have something that Windows put on your computer that your computer does NOT like.
