Im using a freeware program to do tracerout (ping plotter). . .it shows some DNS info - most of the time - but its not enough to tell me much. . .is there anyway to obtain more info on any particular DNS hop location?

3d Traceroute (http://www.d3tr.de/) will give you the location by longitude and latitude , which you can look up here:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/latlong.adp
It also has a whois function which can tell you who owns it and the address of the owner, etc.
