Yes. All of your problems are stemming from having an outdated BIOS that doesnt support large harddrives. Thus you ended up using the EZ-Drive Overlay program. I would highly suggest looking for a bios update or updating your motherboard to one that supports large drives http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Three year old 166MHZ Pentium system with
IBM 3GB HD and MAXTOR 7GB 2nd HD.
When I replaced the IBM with a WESTERN DIGITAL 20.5GB I had to use EZdrive under
Windows 98 to make it accessible with its full capacity.
Now when I boot up in DOS for some reason or
other the 1st HD is not accessible and my
C-drive is now the 1st partition on my 2nd HD. This is G-drive when I boot up in Windows 98.

When I boot up with a LINUX boot disk in order to install Slackware the same thing happens. The LINUX boot disk does not recognize the WD hard disk and recognizes the
2nd HD (Maxtor) as hda. It should access the
WD as hda and the Maxtor A hdb.

My question now is: Is this happening because
of my obsolete BIOS or is it an inherent flaw
of the very large HD which would also happen
with a new system with recent BIOS.

Try flashing your BIOS to get full access to your HDD and remove EZ-Drive. Sometimes EZ-Drive is more of a headache than a relief.

Just be sure that the new BIOS will add support for HDD bigger than 8 gigs.
