I have a Shuttle 569 board with 2 32mb SDRAM chips (unbuffered, 10 ns). This weekend I populated the third bank with another 32 mb chip (unbuffered, PC100). Instead of 96 mb, my system only reports 72 mb. I have tried installing just the new memory (32 mb OK), and all different combinations of old and new and it always comes out the same. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot (other than replace the board)?
Thanks.

I have since sold my 569 system, but I really liked that motherboard, I ran 128MB EDO 4x32MB SIMMs in mine, but when i sold it I stuck in a 64MB PC66 SDRAM DIMM, I think I remember reading in the manual that there was a problem with populating all three DIMM slots at the same time.
On another note; if you exceed 64MB on that Intel 430TX chipset it will slow down your system slightly for general computing, because it defeats the L2 caching - this is a well known problem with the 430TX chipset. However, if you do memory intensive operations like photo editing, then you are better off with more memory.
That board will also run a K6-2 400 just fine - check the website for undocumented CPU core voltage settings. (In fact, a K6-2 350 will clock to 400 on that baord by setting the CPU multiplier to 2x and voltage 2.4v - 2.5)
~edit: It is a good idea, but not necessary, to flash the most current BIOS if you ever plan to use the K6-2 400

Thanks for the prompt reply. First thing I did was RTFM to see recommended memory. You are correct that there is a limitation, but that's only if you put a 64mb chip in. Three 32 meg chips are OK. And thanks, I didn't know about the 64mb cache limit. Bios is the latest too.
Worst comes to worst, I'll take the 32 mb PC100 out, sell the box with 64 mb and buy a new board/box.
Thanks.
