While preparing my old PC for sale I've come across a problem ....
I deleted the original partition using Fdisk.
Created new primary DOS partition but the program says the maximum available is 4032mb while the hard drive is 12G. I definitely enabled large file support and this drive has always been FAT32. I am running Win98 and in the BIOS the drive comes up as the correct size. I have checked the jumper (although I couldn't see why it should be wrong as I haven't changed the drives) and it is fine according to the Seagate website. Can anyone help me please?

are you sure there aren't other partitions on the drive? you only deleted the primary partition.

if you want to start clean, you can use zap or dban to wipe the drive.

I've managed to get it to recognise the correct size (by dowloading software from Seagate website) but now it isn't seen as a FAT32 drive, it says SYSTEM unknown. I am trying to format it to see if this solves the problem.

you might have ezbios or some other overlay software running on that drive. like I said, run zap or dban to clear the drive.

Success!!! Formatting this time went OK and the drive is now recognised as the full size. Thanks for your input, Midknyte.
