I just got a abit BE6 motherboard and am having trouble loading from my drive on the Ultra 66 controller.
System
128Ram
P3 500
Quantum Ultra 66 20Gig HD
Abit BE6 MoBo
and some other nick nacks.
ANyway I can boot up just fine when i load off the normal IDE controllers but when I load off of Ultra 66 it detects the HD but the hangs at "varifing DMI" or something....
I have it set in the BIOS to load of EXT which is the Ultra66.
Is it because I already had windows loaded on this drive when using it with a non ultra 66 mobo, or something else.
THis is the only problem im having

Have you tried letting the bios determine which hard drive you have?
~edit ... duh, sorry,
I just re-read where you said "it detetects your HD", but it could well be from the previous setup.
Have you tried going into the Device Manager and checking out the properties there?

I don't have that board but have been following others experiences here. Did you load the high point ata 66 drivers off the cd?
That's the main problem I've seen posted here with that board. The high point drivers for the ata 66 must be loaded twice to enable both ides.
Are there any exclamation points or question marks in Device manager when you boot to ata 33?

I'm glad u asked that question...
I too have a BE6 128megs PC/100 and An ata/66 drive. I have not yet turned my system on i'm waiting for the last piece which is a cd-rom. I have the HD attached to IDE3 and when i get too it i'll install the ata/66 drivers. I'll let you know how it went.
Please keep me posted about your progress.
Thanks bud
The first screen when you boot, when the BIOS is detecting the drives, should NOT list the drive. The ult66 controlers are kinda like SCSI, they have their own POST. The second screen should say something to the effect of "Hipoint ultra 66 controler...." The drive should be listed in that section. You will need to load the drivers before you connect the drives to the controlers, though.

How does one load the drivers?
From floppy?
I'm building a new comp so i have an ata/66 hd with nothing on it yet... So I take it i must load from floppy?
Thanks
Those drivers are on the Abit cd. You might transfer them to a floppy on another machine if you don't have a cd-rom for that one yet. I don't know how big they are...

It does not detect it on the first screen. However it does when it detects the ultra 66 ports, but then it hangs when varifing the DMI.....
"What is the DMI" is my first question, because it varifies this on the normal IDE port as well but has no problem with it, my question is could this have something to do with the fact that I was using a IDE drive when I installed windows??? of is it something else. The 66 IDE shows up in windows device drive just fine>
THANKS

I would try another u66 cable. I had a similar problem with a promise controller, it say "bios not installed". I bought a new cable and it fired right up. Just a thought

I have an Abit-BE6 w/ATA-66. WinTune says 68 meg w/out being O/C.
Any way, in your Bios, "Boot Sequence A,C,Ext", Ext in this case means that you can boot from the cd-rom.
Just below it should say, "Boot Sequence Ext" and this should say "SCSI" not UMDA66.
From what I gather, you had your HDD running and you installed your new M/B. So, with system files and boot files being in place you should be able to boot to windows.
Now when you get into windows you have to load the drivers in the device manager under SCSI. But first I had to remove "Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller" under 'Hard disk controllers'. DO NOT REBOOT, at this point. Now install the 2 drivers one at a time. If it ask you to reboot, "say no" until you have both installed.
Under SCSI controllers you should have 2 lines that both say "Highpoint Technology Inc. HTP366 Ultra DMA 66 Controller". When you get this you can reboot. Now Windows will want to reinstall the "Intel PCI Bus Master IDE Controller". Let it install it. You just need to remove it to install the SCSI controllers.
While your at it go to performance (in device manager), advanced setting in the lower left, click file system, typical role of this computer and set as 'network server'. This helps performance. Full on 'read ahead' just below.
Also install XStore Pro, it will speed up your cd-rom considerabley. Looks like you have plenty of room so give the cache the max amount. It don't start by itself either, so you have to click on the icon to make it run.
Hope all this helps.
