I'm afraid to ask, but last I heard, it sucked. Does it still suck? Evidently I need it now for my dual core whatchamadoodle. So I guess I'm stuck with it one way or another. I just hope it doesn't suck. Oh yeah and I heard of something abominable called "execution prevention" or some such. Something tells me it really, really sucks... :(

it's been over 2 years since SP2 came out. most companies have fix issues with SP2 by now.

DEP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875352&product=windowsxpsp2kb) is to protect you from malicious software.

It sounds like you really need the "dual core whatchamadoodle".

ok thanks guys, if you say it's alright. just that I figure whenever those MS guys think up something new, it's a coin toss whether it'll be genuinely beneficial, or restrictive and frustrating. like buying new briefs, I suppose, in many ways.

my parents bought a HP pavilion a year ago, ignoring my advice and good sense. it came with SP2. I remember trying to open the interweb like I'm used to on a non-fox computer - Run c:, type in google.com in the address bar of the window that pops up. I know, it's unique. not only did that NOT open the website anymore, it gave me a DEP error and crashed explorer. by the way, the "athlon 64"s that are put in those hp comps have 256k caches, like a lowly sempron. bah! )-|

Yes install it but take an image beforehand.

SP2 for WinXP has been out since Aug. 2004.

It gives you so much more than just fixes to exploits, like a better driver PnP database and so forth.

Rabbit, my PM option has always been enabled so you should be able to PM me a message.

I will PM you my email address in case the PM fails so keep a copy of the message in Word for the time being.

Good to hear and sure send the email.

I'm working day and night for the next week at the moment as I must get "More Than Just a Glossary" (copyrighted) finished for Genie-soft.

It's up to 110,000 words now :D

It started off as a help manual for everyone to use and then grew into a monster that I'm still trying to tame ready for Wednesday's submission date to Genie-soft so it can go live.

110, 000 words and 2-years of hard graft on-and-off, under the hood of the WinNT family.

I hope it benefits everyone that reads it.

Version 2 will be based on backup solutions and policies but with the networks domain in mind. The same vain as with backups locally taken with version 1. So this will take it up to 250,000 words.

After that, I'm having a holiday. Actually, version 2 and my uni work will be coming on holiday with me a per usual, as did version 1 and uni work.

I will post when it goes live ok.
