I've been having problems with websites that use the Flash player. I get a message that I need to download the player - which is already installed. It started with IE and now it seems to affect Firefox also. The support page @ Macromedia says to use their utility to uninstall then reinstall the newest version. This seems to work for a few days but inevitably the problem returns.

I'm aware of the Spywareblaster flash killer setting but that's not it.

Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I haven't found a solution that works yet.

After trying to research this and finding very little, I thought I fubared something myself. I think it must be an interaction between Windows updates, anti-spyware definitions and active-X/flash conflicts.

I bet Microsoft broke something in Firefox.

Upon further investigation, I found the source of the problem. I thought about the scan, fix & clean utilities I run on a regular basis and found that RegScrubXP finds & deletes the registry key which allows Flash to run. Careful with those registry tools!

Hope this might help someone else.

The RegScrubXP author ceased distribution on that application some time ago and apparently, asked everyone else to do the same. He said he was working on a new version based on the .NET Framework, but since that time his website has disappeared.
He was coding some really interesting stuff like forensic data recovery and drive imaging freeware. I fully expect that he will resurface, in his own time, with a few gems.
In the meantime, I don't think we can expect any updates or support for that app.

Good work tracking that down bubbalou. I too have had that problem.

This is again, funny.. I wrote about this same post on another place and now i do not feel so bad.... whew! what a relief.. Whats strange is that i just watched some trailers earlier using Windows Media Player 10, and it workd fine.

Am going to check this out again soon, and find those sites to see if the problems indeed still exists... I was told top go into my internet security options and check aht the java outlet is enabled.. mine were before and after...
Now.. if you glance up the meny page some more you will notice two of the dirst five choices ... to enable or disable. .... uncheck those. i think that did it. LOL
