Basically, I have Norton AV 2000 and the virus scanner that comes with Mijenix Fix-it 99. They both worked very well int he past together and I had no problms. now both proggies give me errors when I try to run the scan and the NAV autoprotect is permanently disabled. I realized this last night and have yet to try reinstalling the software but am a bit worried that this might be a virus of some sort. I have found a trojan on my system before but got rid of it. thanks for any advice you can give.
Merry Christmas-Dave

It sounds more like your system is in really bad need of a scandisk and defrag operation on the hard drive and a reinstall of Norton.

Worst case, it could be either a boot sector virus, or possibly a BIOS virus, but that last typically kills the system out-right.

Hardware worst case is that part of your hard drive is bad and those two programs happen to occupy the bad sectors. - A scandisk will show if this is the case.

Well, I haven't run scan disk in a while but I keep the drive below 2% frag and defrag about once every week to two weeks with cnastant registry checks. I'm a little obsessed with that. I will run the remote scan described above and let you guys know later. Thanks for all of the input, and if you have more feel free.

2% fragmentation on a huge hard drive is a lot of space to be in disorder....just my 2 cents...

Make a floppy on a computer which is free of virus with the virus scanner on it. And boot and use it to scan your computer.

Nortons AV 5.0 came with a 'diagnostics' disk that you can scan for viruses by booting with it
Id imagine AV 2k has the same disk (if not improved)

I bought an OEM version that just had the disk for $10. No disk. I didn't make a rescue disk setup. If you don't mind, how would you go about making the disk w/ the scanner.
Thanks-Dave
