If you have the Zip drive as slave on the Secondary IDE then make sure that it is set to "None" in the CMOS setup, NOT to "Auto".

OK did that., went to add hard ware, it looked for N&P , looked for hdwr not P&P, will now search. did not find, gave long list but zip not on it . http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
Hold tight just put a disk in the drive and a screen came up. maybe nothing happens till a disk is inserted, will look for further in fo on this had omega tools on old mach but no software to put it on this one, will try to get it from the guy that originaly installed the drive. more later

Download the drivers from iomega website even if it is "supposed" to be autodetected by Win98. Maybe you do need them...

I've been finding out that either the BIOS sees it or it doesn't. Try removing the CD-rom and if that helps. I use to spend a lot of time trying to get them to work and couldn't (don't want the machine to beat me). So I determined that either it, Windows, either sees it or not.
Maybe someone else will hit on a solution for you.

Glad to hear you've had some success. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Like Nathan said, internal Zip drives are almost impossible to install on some machines - depends alot on the BIOS.

Thanks, working OK now. kept coming up on screen till I found a check mark to tell it to. debugging is as bad as building http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I feel like Im taking a home course in computers http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif after a while the screen saver came on and locked things up, control brought back screen but mouse locked up. deleted it. we'll see.

ALLRIGHT HERE IS THE DEAL! Go into your bios and disable support for the zip...
I had problems when I put in my zip, until I did that. Its on page 37 of my manual, if you don't believe it, it sounds really dumb. the zip runs off software, not the bios...

As I recall some ver of IOMEGA TOOLS was very buggy and it did'nt pay to install them...
Check their website again one program fits on a floppy the other doesn't....
You want the floppy version to get started...

When I installed my internal zip drive, it had a disk to find the drive. After I installed the drive and started the computer
I popped the disk in and it found it and installed the drivers. I think you can down load a copy of them from their web site. If not e-mail me and I can send you a copy pony experss. You can also down load a manual from the same web site. I hope this helps Butch
With my external - always had trouble in that it wanted to load the scsi drivers - always had to force the parallel drive in manually, so to speak, But once I learned the process, I didn't have any more trouble.

Hey, Hey Ho,Ho, looks like it,s gonna go. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
no sign of zip in bios, I downloaded some stuff from their website, now have Icon on desk top, which brings up screen with some choices,
then went to CD prob, it is now sec.master auto. now get CD player screen. am listening to Johny Denver while doing this so that much good for now.
now fighting with printer same old ****, insert win98 cd, then says can,t find iconlib.dll and unidrive.dll on ths disk. not first time been told some thing not on the disk. printer is a radio shack http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif dot matrix. but works good and cheap to print lots of stuff. uses ibm proprinter x24 driver,
