If it set up that it has 2 connectors on it, (not including the one that gets connected to the MoBo) can you just cut the second one off? Or will it screw everything up?

that would be classafied as cable abuse. and the little cable people inside your machine will eat your cpu up. what would you want to cut the cable in the first place. you might need it later to hook something up. plus, it might short something out. why not just spend a dollar or two and get a single cable and save the double.

yeah its fine..it just leaves little itty bitty teethmark-type thinngs in it, cuz the pins are touching each of the 40 wires. If you use electrical tape it should be fine (I deattached the 5 1/4 thing when i was rounding my floppy cable)

I did that, no problems. I just made sure it was a clean cut, and that not wires were touching each other /forum/smile.gif

just make sure you flex the cable a bit before taping it

I'd have to agree with one of the first comments - why cut a cable? Are you over your weight limit on-board your ship and are looking at cutting out ounces where you can so you can get all you bad habits into the sea bag or something? Should you ever need to slave a HD or CDROM to copy something - you'll be out of luck. Keep it intact.

The connectors snap off fairly easy. Definitely don't cut the end off that has the twist.

Okay - so we're talking floppy - again - why cut it off - I've got two floppy drives on my primary. Great for copying stuff as well as formatting disks from AOL ( I'm still getting an old floppy from time to time as well as the disks - but I REFUSE!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif)

If airflow and heat are the issue, the benefits of shortening the poor abused cable are greatly out-weighed by simply springing for a better bigger fan.
