I have an older Gigabyte (MFR'd in 2002) mobo without SATA Controllers onboard - only IDE. My HDD is going out. I am interested in implementing the new WD Raptor 150 GB 10,000 rpm drive. However, it is SATA only.

Can someone recommend a converter so that I can install the SATA drive in my system? Are there any issues with doing this?

Here are two that I found -- will either work?

Directron (http://www.directron.com/adp170567.html)
Addonics (http://www.shopaddonics.com/itemdesc.asp?CartId={F15C6647-BD1B-4BC9-B234-8CF6977A0C7EVERESTD}&ic=ADSAIDE)

I typically purchase nearly everything from NewEgg.com, but didn't see any of these converters available on their site. If I was wrong, please let me know.

I'm running WinXP Pro.

Thanks for any assistance.

Also, is there any special power needs or will the standard power work from the PSU the same as a IDE drive?

Here's a link to the category:

There are also molex to sata power adapters available as the sata drives take a different plug but I don't have the time to hunt for them right now. Sorry.

You could skip the ide adaptors and just go SATA standalone PCI controller.

Thanks everyone! Just ordered the WD Raptor 150GB (non-x model) and Promise Adapter card.

The Promise SATA300 TX2 Plus is an excellent card.
