No matter which system restore point I pick it keeps coming up as incomplete and failed to restore.
This only seems to have started since I played an audio cd from emi with Copy Control protection by IFPI. Im guessing this is whats causing the problems as I seem to remember reading something about this ages ago.
Does anyone know how I can remove it and fix this?
thank you

Just thought of something else.
I havent done a system restore since I installed Nortons Antivirus 2006 about a month ago.
Could Norton's be causing any problems?

Here are some FAQs for System Restore:

Note the 9th FAQ in the Troubleshooting section.

Thank you for the faq.
Ive done everything they said but it hasnt helped. XP only tells me there was an error in attempting to restore but theres no details anywhere on what caused it.
Has anyone else had similar issues?

I think we all have. I don't use System Restore anymore because I can't count on it. Instead, I use Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image.

Try EAZFIX,.
My company uses it, and I personally use it ,too. so far so good!
Better than Ghost, I think.

I don't like rollback programs. They are too intrusive and when they fail, they make other methods of recovery near impossible. As an example, search the forums for "goback".
I'd much rather see you do scheduled backups with an imaging program.
M$ System Restore is unreliable and unpredictable. In the some cases it will result in complete unrecoverable registry corruption.
A typical message will be:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
For this reason I never enable or will use this poorly implemented troubleshooting tool.
Like Bill, a weekly differential image using Ghost or True Image and an active backup solution is the best policy.

Sorry for not replying sooner.
Thank you all for your ideas. Ill look into them. :)
GoBack was fine bill until Symantec ruined it will their flaky and easy to break interface and unreliable code interference.
Also users didn't understand the power and the limitations on GBs use. I know as I use to moderate the Roxio site that owned GB prior to the Symantec purchase of it. For example, doing a fixmbr was not a good idea before unhooking GB from the MBR.
So like you Bill, GB has gone. M$ System Restore is hopeless and unpredictable; may even give you the nice registry corruption message above without even having a real system problems, just a simple rollback request for messed up configurations by the user beforehand.
Use an active backup program and passive backup program in future.
Also search the web for M$ System Restore problems too.
What a real shame, GoBack was one of the best and most convenient troubleshooting programs I had.
Thank you very much Symantec - NOT :(
