What DVD player software are you using? Look for the newest version or try another program.
Some players lock-up with certain DVDs so try different disks if you can to see if its the player in general or with certain disks.
I am using the software that came with the ATI Magnum (the card has DVD hardware), I checked the ATI page and no new software available for download.
I have not tried another DVD because I don't have anymore around ;(

1. The drive runs CD-ROM correctly?
2. How about any DVD that isn't a movie?
You can try another DVD by renting one at blockbuster... but that will mean spend money...
Is the DVD correctly installed under windows? You can try deleting it from Device Manager and reinstall it.
I've tried uninstalling the video card as well as the DVD/Cd-rom. I've gotten the DVD to play for over 5 minutes long, just that it freezes and hangs up the system. I wonder if it is the board. Also, my hard drive seems to be missing about .4 GB and when I run Partition magic to see what is wrong it gives me error #2005. This is really starting to annoy me.

The Partition Magic error you can fix it with the patch at PowerQuest's website. Remeber that formating takes some space away and also the FAT system you are using too.
Download the newest drivers for the ATI card too.
Hmm... if you suspect of the video board then remove it and use a software decoding player. Then if all goes well even if it's relatively slow install the ATI video card and try it again. If it locks-up then search for any bios or patches for the card too.

If your Mobo uses Via chipset you may need a patch to fix some irq glitches.. That may be your problem.. Check your mobo's website for info on IRQ steering patch
