I have a 2 year old 233Mhz MMX Pentium PC with a 4.3 GB HD, 64 MB RAM, running Windows95B. The machine will not boot up anymore and doesn’t give POST beeps. In trying to isolate the problem, I removed all the I/O cards one at a time (sound card, modem, video card). Each time, when trying to reboot, there were no POST beeps and the hard drive didn’t spin up. The power source is OK, because the CPU fan spins, the power LED lights up, and the CD-ROM drive LED is lit. I removed the CD-ROM then tried again, but still nothing. Only when I disconnect the IDE cable from either the motherboard or the rear of the hard drive, will the hard drive begin to spin., but that’s all that happens. The floppy drive is completely unresponsive. I’ve checked all the jumpers, inspected the cables, reseated the CPU and the inspected the motherboard itself, and nothing is out of place or damaged. I didn’t add any new hardware or change any BIOS settings before the problem started. Can anybody guess as to what’s wrong here?

Perishing motherboard perhaps? Have you tried the components on another computer? Or it could be a virus... not very probable...
If you have access to another motherboard or computer try your stuff there and that way you'll know if it is the motherboard or not.
Thanks for the suggestions everybody. The battery looks fine and I've also tried powering on with absolutely no peripherals attached to the motherboard, but I still get no POST beeps. I'm assuming the motherboard is done for and will start shopping for a new one.

Did it ever beep ?????
Does the mobo have a built-in speaker or does it use the case spkr..?? If case are both wire connected to speaker or is one broken at the solder joint ????
Is your memory seated securely or has "thermal creep" pushed it up out of the socket ????
Check your mobo power connector too.....
Disconect everything from the board...sounds like a short somewhere....
SHAKE OUT the case and see if a loose screw has found a new home.....

Yes, the board did used to beep, but I haven't heard that sweet sound since Monday, 12/6. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif Again, I've checked *every* connection, wire, and removable component on the board and I can't find anything physically wrong. It happened literally overnight.
