I moved some cards and HDs round in my system and I'm getting 1 or 2 interesting byproducts which I don't understand where to go to fix.

Moved the 2nd HD from being the slave on IDE chan#2 to being the slave on chan#1 - now fdisk says it doesn't have any partitions! And Windows won't let me assign a drive letter. It works fine on chan#2 but although Bios recognises it on booting AND BIOS/jumper settings are correct AND windows recognises the drive in "system control panel", I can't read its contents in windows or dos or assign a drive letter through control panel. Ideas?

Second, does anyone have recommendation for a GOOD/well-proven free/shareware program I can use to thoroughly test 64+128 mb dram modules, and the video ram on the Matrox Millenium II card, as system seems to freeze without error messages every once in a while and can't find any obvious cause.

System: up-to-date Award bios, Win98 release 2

You could try changing the cable for IDE1 with a new one.

Sandra has limited capabilities, but would most likely show any problems with your memory.
