I was installing Win98 on a freinds new PC and it kept crashing on a certain file and memory address. We tried the memory (128MB Pc100) in another computer and it seemed to be fine. But still wouldn't work on his comp and so we used a different version of win98 and that too was crashing. Came to the conclusion that it was a memory problem. What i don't understand is why it worked on the other computer? Could it be a mobo prob?
Can you install PC100 memory in any DIMM slot incase it is the slot that is faulty or does in need to go into DIMM0 first?
Any comments or advise would be much appreciated cheers

Hi

Humm, if the RAM is working OK in the other PC, that does not look like a RAM problem

Is the PC overheating ?

You can install the dimm in any slot, so it could be worth trying another slot !

What's the make of your mobo ?

I had crashes installing win98 once also. I called tech support and he told me that installing win98 is probably the best test for memory there is to see if it is bad. I used diff memory and everything went fine.

Managed to get it installed with some other memory and then went back to the origainal stuff and windows booted fun but kept getting errors when running programs. The MOBo is a microstar something or other, their athlon one. It isn't overheating cos it wasn't even gettign a chance to get warm before it was giving errors. Tried the dimm in another slot and it is still giving errors so i reckon it is definitely a bad stick and we're sending it back. Cheers
