I was having problems with a "corrupted or missing COMMAND.COM file" message. (See previous post. (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/003635.html)) I found that if I disallowed the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, I would not get the message. One by one I removed the three lines in my AUTOEXEC.BAT file using SYSEDIT, but I was still getting the message. Finally, I used the Select All command under Edit and Deleted even though nothing was showing in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This worked. I no longer get the "corrupted or missing COMMAND.COM" message".

Any ideas as to what this was?

What operating system are you using? Win95 and Win98 don't need a autoexec.bat file.

I am using Windows 98. One of the AUTOEXEC lines included a splash screen, I think. And there was an A4init.exe file.

Baz,
That A4int.exe file is used for the "advanced" funtions of your A-4 Tech scroll mouse. Without the software loading for it you lose the ability to use the 4th button and such. I just use the scroll feature and deleted all the software related to the mouse and using the generic MS mouse drivers

Thanks, mntsnow, that's A4init.exe, I assume. I don't know how it got there, I don't have a four button mouse.
